About Ayine | Redefining contemporary sports art!
Hey, I’m Ayine. A Ugandan sports fine artist and entrepreneur. My original sports art paintings are tools of appreciating, highlighting, and establishing the NEGLECTED socio-economic & cultural development potential offered by sports in East African society.
I use Acrylic Black, in the textured main background of the sports paintings, to symbolise and value our African heritage. The vintage rich earth tones that oil paints provide, give the figures a strong unique presence.
Vision
An active society and a vibrant viable sport industry that drives socio-economic development, cultural heritage plus sustainable development in East Africa.
Ayine passionately believes in the potential of sports to inspire wellbeing and create employment.
Mission
In pursuit of this vision, through the power of visual fine art, Ayine shall commemorate, interrogate and undertake action focused on contemporary ideas that establish the importance of sports for East African society.
Ayine shall strive to provide sports art exhibitions and related programs to present to passionate audiences and collectors discussions that help them appreciate and connect with sports at levels deeper than only leisure.
My Story
Life moulds people to what they are today. The sculptor being this our world, lived experiences being the carving knives she uses.
Fort Portal
Born in Fort Portal, without a father and losing my mother at the age of seven, besides my relatives who have supported me since then, God gave me gifts of love for art and sports (my favourite being football) to keep me company as parents would their offspring.
Super Strikers and Thiery Henry
True happiness and freedom of expression as a child only manifested to me while drawing in my art book or playing football and any other sport. I basically learnt how to draw by redrawing the characters in the famous South African football comic book, SUPER STRIKERS and trying to play like Shakes Fimbo and Thiery Henry in the evenings with my friends.
Ntare School – Dinho
In 2012, while at Ntare school, calling myself “Dinho Sinho” inspired by Ronaldinho, my love for the game exceeded where it was supposed to stop in my mind that I was more willing to pursue a career in professional football than completing my studies. Anyone who advised me otherwise became my “enemy”
Didier Drogba at AFCON
That was around the time Didier Drogba’s favourites Ivory Coast lost the AFCON trophy to Zambia thanks to Kalaba’s extraordinary performance in those 90 minutes, a game I watched live on a big projector like many others in the school’s main hall.
I am not a Doctor!
However, my “enemies” were right, they loved me and wanted me to play safe because I live in Uganda, East Africa, a society where being a professional artist or sportsman does not buy food from the supermarket. To do that, one has to be a doctor.
A trip to Tokyo, Japan.
Professional footballers or sportsmen in general are NOT important anyway, are they? This house believes they are. In 2019, while pursuing a diploma in Civil Engineering, my subconscious mind told me to leave everything and search for my “reason of being” IKIGAI like the Japanese call it.
A Ugandan contemporary sports artist.
And when I found it, it was using fine art as my voice to establish the importance of sport in the East African society. That’s why I started, that’s what drives me.
